Christmas in Torquay – Dave

After an early morning departure and collection of all the passengers for the gold Christmas break in Torquay, we commenced our journey south west arriving at the Imperial Hotel, Torquay mid afternoon.

Once we arrived at the hotel, Sam (Assistant Manager) boarded the coach to welcome everybody to the hotel and explained the itinerary for the Christmas break and handed out a copy of the itinerary to all passengers which detailed all the events taking place. Upon arrival, mulled wine and mince pies were served.

Dinner was served at 7.30pm, there was an excellent choice of menu and all the tables were clearly marked as there were several other coach companies in. Neil and all the staff in the restaurant were most attentive and couldn’t do enough to ensure that everyone has the best service possible. After dinner, there was an excellent singer Vik, who crooned Christmas songs and Tom Jones amongst others.

On Christmas eve, after a leisurely breakfast, we headed off to spend a couple of hours in Brixham. After driving along the coast, we then proceeded along to get the ferry across the picturesque town of Dartmouth. After a couple of hours there, we proceeded back via Paignton to the hotel for our cream tea followed by a Christmas eve dinner and entertainment in the hotel. In the evening we enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies after midnight mass.

Christmas day morning, the sun was shining and the weather was much calmer, everyone took the day easy and went for walks down by the gardens and some ventured out to brave the steep hill down the town to the marina. There were a few coffee shops open but most closed at 4pm.

Christmas day lunch was served at 12 noon, a traditional lunch which was enjoyed by all. In the afternoon, all were welcome at 3pm to join in the conservatory for the Queens speech which was then followed by tea and cake in the palm court lounge. A very nice festive yuletide buffet was served at 6.30pm, which was then again followed by entertainment, by a male vocalist.

After a rather wet rainy start to Boxing Day, only a few of the passengers braved the elements to partake in the tour to Plymouth. Although the weather was against us, most enjoyed some retail therapy.  After departing Plymouth we travelled back to the hotel via Paignton in time for everyone too relax and get ready for the black tie gala dinner. Everyone in the restaurant had a most enjoyable evening prior to dinner there was a Kir Royale drinks reception and a lady playing the piano in the background.

After breakfast on Saturday morning we commenced the return journey home. All the staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and went out of their way to ensure everyone received the highest attention possible. The rooms were extremely well serviced everyday.

Overall, a great break and a good time was had by all.

Winchester Christmas Market – Graham

Friday

Ho, Ho, Ho, its Christmas time again, where has this year gone, but this means it’s the start of the Christmas Market tours again. After boarding the coach, we made our way to Henley on Thames, where we stopped a while, there was enough time to wander round, have lunch and time for shopping in the small town on the Thames. We left Henley and made our way to our hotel in Basingstoke where we would be based for 3 days. On arrival, we were checked into our rooms in no time, time to freshen up and socialise before dinner. The evening meal was of a good standard and after time was spent getting to know each other in the bar.

Saturday

After a good breakfast we boarded the coach and made our way to Winchester, for the Christmas market, what a lovely sunny day, the weather could not have been better for this time of year, we arrived early so missed all the heavy traffic. A great day had by all; on leaving Winchester we returned to the hotel for the evening, time to relax after a long day shopping.

Sunday

After a lovely breakfast we said goodbye to the hotel staff, loaded the coach and made our way to Salisbury. After a misty start, the sun came out, which made the day even better, there was enough time to explore the city and do some last minute shopping, before heading back to the interchange, a good trip. Merry Christmas to one and all.
