Las Rocas Hotel, Castro Urdiales, Cantabria – Val & Roger

Whilst we did not travel by coach as we have only a long weekend here and have been doing so for 15 or so years, our experience this year at the Las Rocas was even better than last year.

The hotel is one of the friendliest hotels we have stayed in, all the staff are happy to see you, the hotel is spotlessly clean all the comfortable bedrooms have complementary soft drinks and tea and coffee making facilities. Some also have a sea view. They present the most generous hot and cold buffet breakfast in the restaurant and evening meals are delicious. The hotel’s location is also excellent within one minute from the front door you are overlooking Brazomer Beach, a lovely horseshoe bay with golden sands. A safe haven for children and adults for swimming, walking and relaxing. We like the position of the Las Rocas as it gives us a pleasant walk to the town centre with the most amazing views along the way. The harbour is one of Cantabria’s prettiest fishing ports with excellent waterfront restaurants to sample the local tapas. Castro Urdiales has all the charm of a small seafaring and fishing village with a rich tradition and tourist atmosphere. The buildings of the church of Santa María, the most significant example of Cantabria’s Gothic architecture, and the castle-lighthouse, visible from all parts of town, are the most representative sights in Castro Urdiales.

We love this town for it’s beautiful architecture, food and drink
and hospitality of the local people – it’s truly ‘Old Spain’.
