Cannes, St Tropez & The Chic Cote D’Azur – Val
We enjoyed a smooth journey to Thurrock where we swiftly transferred to our South of France bound coach with Rick at the wheel.
The day panned out as it should with no hold ups at the port, pleasant staff served our lunch on board the ferry and Rick made ample comfort stops on the way to Dijon. The Novotel Dijon Sud are so well geared up for groups and within minutes we were ensconced in our comfortable rooms ready for a good nights sleep.
Up bright and early and all aboard for the final leg of our journey to the coast. A sense of excitement ran through the coach as we continued on with ample stops en route. We arrived in good time and after collecting our room keys we had time for our welcome drink which we enjoyed sitting around the pool in the sun.
The Mercure Hotel in St Rapheal sits in landscaped gardens and a golf course. There is a small parade of shops at the outer limit of the hotel which would take approx. 20 minutes to walk to. The pretty harbour and town centre are a good hours walk but well worth it. There are many bars, cafes, restaurants and a great selection of shops. We enjoyed lunch in an Italian restaurant literally on the beach and bought some souvenirs.
Our day excursions were amazing – Cannes happened to be when a festival was taking place so there was a real buzz when we arrived in the coach park which is conveniently located in the harbour area. We walked up to the town, shopped, took photographs and had lunch overlooking the harbour.
As we all know Cannes is the gathering place of Hollywood’s A-list during the Cannes Film Festival, and has much to offer it’s visitors. With historic buildings and museums, stylish boutiques and restaurants, and a lovely marina, our time here just flew by!
St Tropez – a little surprising – not as big as I had imagined but extremely quaint with some very posh shops!
Another fabulous day. After checking out we set off retracing our steps back to Dijon and arrived late afternoon. We were soon walking just 5 minutes from the Novotel to a local grill restaurant where we had an enjoyable very reasonable meal. In the morning we set off for the port of Calais and our ferry back to England with many happy memories. Thanks to Rick for a smooth ride, lovely clean coach and for putting up with us!
