Ron – Camargue & Roman France

Day 1

Run to Dover & Calais as normal, after leaving the Port of Calais we headed towards our overnight in Troyes. We were fortunate in having a good afternoon & evening with lots of views of the Birds of Prey which towards dusk sit along the motorway. We also spotted some Deer along the route.

Day 2

Second day, once again weather wonderful for our drive down through Macon & Lyon en-route for Arles. Once again plenty of Birds of Prey and was just great to see the expanse of the French Countryside.

Day 3

Another good day weather wise although a little dull in the afternoon but still warm.

We visited Nimes in the morning. Like a lot of French towns a tram system is being introduced, which made getting in and out a little awkward, but managed to get in with about a 3 min walk to the famous arena. Very nice place, big open square, very nice.

In the afternoon we made our way across county to the The Camargue and the coast with the Flamingos and Horses dotted around.

Some of the passengers went on a 1hr ½ boat cruise which they thought was great, with lots more views of Horses, Flamingos & Bulls, which they were shown along the way.  Good day.

Day 4

Free day today in Arles, very warm, most people walked into the City and then took a ride on the road train which found its way around the narrow streets and passed all the places of interest. Very nice place, clients all returned to hotel exhausted.

Day 5

This morning was a nice drive through the countryside to Avignon, once again clients used the road train to see the city, then went to the attractions they wished to see. To finish the day it was a visit to the ‘Pont Du Gard’ a fitting end to a good day.

Robin – Discover the Ahr Valley

A good trip across the water into France, then a good drive to our overnight hotel. We arrived about 20.30.

First day we visit Bonn then on to Konigswinter up to the famed Drachenfels ( Dragons Rock ).
Most of the passengers then took a boat ride down the River Rhine and were picked up at Remagen. A very nice day was had.

Day two we take a drive through the forest to our first stop at the 16th century town of Cochem.
After leaving Cochem we headed along the Moselle River to our next port of call the famous wine town of Bernkastel-Kues. After this we made our way back to the hotel, via motorway and country roads. Another very enjoyable day.

Day three was a train ride to the medieval town of Ahrweiler. After a pleasant few hours here we returned to the hotel.
Weather was very good, mainly warm although the Wednesday was cooler.

Martin – Austrian Lakes & the Sound of Music – September 2012

Austrian Lakes & the Sound of Music

Today my feeder was out of Clacton and by the time I got to Thurrock I had 48 passengers for various tours but I had 16 which were traveling on the tour to Austria. John gave the go ahead to change over at 09.30 so we were soon on our way. I had to call into Gravesend for 2 who were traveling with me and 2 at Dover so in total I had 38 to Austria.
We were on the 12.05 ferry which was the Spirit of France and sailed on time. We were off at 14.30 then on my way to Dunkirk and then onto Lille. Talked about various things to the passengers but like always they like to have a snooze because they spent most of the previous night worrying about not getting up in time for their holiday, not like us drivers who can sleep anywhere.
We had a good run into Belgium and stopped for our afternoon break at Spy Services then onto the Ardennes which was nice with the sun behind us. There where animals out grazing so all in all a nice drive down to Luxembourg. We got to our overnight hotel for 20.15.

Monday – journey from Luxembourg to St Georgen.

Breakfast from 06.45, we managed to leave for  07.45 and hoped to miss rush the hour into the city. When we get onto the motorway we were into fog which spoiled the view of all the vineyards. Soon over the German border and heading for Trier. We cross over the Mosel, we stay on the motorway up to Hundsruck and leave the fog behind, we got some great views of Mosel slopes with all the vineyards, down pass Ramstein. Sometimes we get lucky and see the big aircraft come in to land, today only a Hercules. Onto to the Pfalzer Wald region and Hockenheim Services for a coffee stop, then we just follow for Nuremberg, having lunch on the way at Frankenhohe, our afternoon stop was at Bayerischer Wald for coffee and to our hotel for 17.15, we had a super drive.

Tuesday – day off, it was a wonderful day.

In the morning our local guide Gunter took the passengers on a guided walk of the town. We headed back to the hotel for a rest by the pool. In the afternoon we had a train ride to Attersee and a boat ride on lake Attersee for two hours and twenty minutes. It was a beautiful day and was a great trip, after dinner Gunter put on a slide show about the area.

Wednesday – Sound of Music

Today we drive to Mondsee and had free time to look at the church where the wedding in the Sound of Music took place, must say it’s a wonderful church. On the drive to St Gilgen I drove pass and stopped for photos over looking St Gilgen which was our lunch stop. We then headed onto St Wolfgang, made a quick stop for a photo opportunity which the passengers like. After St Wolfgang we had a nice drive via Altmunster to Steinbach and along Lake Attersee to the hotel, after dinner it was Mr Wimmer playing decent Zither-music.

Thursday – Folk Evening

A guide had been organised in Salzburg for the passengers who wanted to take part in the optional walking tour. Turned out to be very hot afternoon. On the way back I done a little detour for some photos and tonight we had our folk evening in the hotel and the passengers enjoyed the meal and evening.

Friday – The Eagles Nest

Today we go to Berthesgaden and it was a glorious morning so we went straight up to the Peilstein and the passengers who wanted to go up to the Eagles Nest had some wonderful views and afterwards time to visit the museum and the bunkers. We then headed into town which has wonderful murals on lots of the buildings, had a nice drive back to our hotel.

Saturday – Hallstatt

We left our hotel in the rain but by the time we got to Bad Ischl we drove out of it and when we got to Hallstatt it was nice and sunny and our boat was waiting for us. I have to park up quick and join the passengers on the boat. The tour around the lake was nice, I could point out all the interesting points from the lake, like the water fall, Rudolf’s Tower and the Island Garden. Afterwards I walked the passengers into town and showed them the sites to visit, some passengers told me that it was “magical”. The sun was nice with all the reflections in the lake, sad to leave it but we had a nice drive back to the hotel.

Sunday – heading for England

We returned to our overnight hotel, the Ramada in Bruhl. We did have a few hold ups on the way but got booked in for 18.30 and enjoyed a buffet meal in the hotel. In the morning were heading for England and I have a couple of days off!
